Refugees and the City | Medea Vox at Malmöfestivalen
August 18, 2016 @ 16:00 – 18:00
Malmö is a city with many voices and faces. But some are heard and seen more than others.
At Malmö University, many researchers and students are striving toward a society that is more inclusive—a society where gender and ethnicity should not determine whether you can take part or not. Based on research carried out at the university, at the Malmöfestivalen podcast stage (at Malmö Central Station by the Espresso House entrance) we will discuss how the institutions of the city could better enable more people to take part in society.
A way in to higher education
We will discuss how higher education could be made available also for people without residence permit, and how people with academic experiences could find a place in academia. We will also talk about how migrants’ experiences can be included in the official history of a city.
Part of the podcast Medea Vox
The discussions are held in English. Senior lecturer Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt is the moderator and she will interview researchers at the university and other invited guests. The participants are Cecilia Christersson, pro vice-chancellor at Malmö University; Qais Fares, journalist; Maria Hellström Reimer, professor in design; Anders Høg Hansen, senior lecturer in media and communication studies; Paula Mulinari, senior lecturer in social work; and May Samhouri, the Student Union. The discussions are being recorded as part of the podcast Medea Vox, which is produced by the research lab Medea at Malmö University.
