Medea Talks | Framing Wonder: A Mission for Design

October 16, 2017 @ 15:1517:00

Ann Light

Medea Talks on October 16 with Ann Light, Professor of Design and Creative Technology at the University of Sussex (UK). Ann Light will discuss how people “make futures” and what role design may have in this.

In this talk, Ann Light will discuss the role of design in contributing to future ways of being and address the big crisis of our time – climate change and the mass extinction event we are living through – by making three suggestions:

  1. We are still learning what we are as a species and what we are capable of
  2. We have the means to meet in new relations with ensuing opportunities for cultural change and growth
  3. Our tools have need to follow these lines of enquiry for all our sakes.

The title, Framing Wonder, refers to the conclusion she draws, that whether we save or lose the finer points of living, designing so that we give our attention to them can only benefit us. The work will touch on acts of growing, imagining, collaborating and place-making.
