Oxford Dictionary’s word of the year 2016 was post-truth. Together with “fake news”, this is one of the most widely discussed digital phenomena in recent years. Why should we care, and can we do anything about it?

Pille Pruulmann Vengerfeldt is professor in media and communication studies. Johan Farkas is PhD student in media and communication studies; both work at Malmö University. Farkas recently published the widely-spread article Fake News as a Floating Signifier: Hegemony, Antagonism and the Politics of Falsehood (open access).
