New Media Open-Access Academic Journals

A couple of months ago, I wrote a post on 7 open-access academic journals, highlighting academic journals and articles that are freely available on the web. In this follow-up post I will give you a more comprehensive list of open-access academic journals that deal with “new media” issues, for example media and communication studies, game studies, interaction design and journalism.

PhD Amanda L. French wrote a great piece on the need for scholars to use social media channels to help broaden the audience for academic work. This is an attempt to increase the visibility of these journals and, maybe, help increase the readership of these articles. An index of almost all open-access journals out there can be found at doaj.org.

I would also need your help to make this list complete. What journals not listed here would you recommend? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

      It sure is a pity. I’ve been told that the most recent build of Open Journal Systems will have RSS enabled by default, so hopefully all new journals will have RSS capabilities.
